Educating for Eternity is a theme that endures through the ages. We align most closely with our Heavenly Father when our instruction, motivation, and resolve are rooted in what is eternal. The selfless dedication of educators who have poured their hearts into the lives of students at Dayton Christian School serves as a powerful example. It challenges us to follow suit—to pay it forward by sharing the gospel and impacting as many lives as possible.

The Sowing Tree Memorial stands as a living tribute to our commitment to educating for eternity. At its heart is a white oak, a tree that grows slowly but steadily, becoming strong and enduring over time. This symbolizes the importance of keeping Jesus Christ at the center of all we do. Our journey through life, much like the growth of the tree, will be marked by peaks and valleys. But just as the oak stands firm despite the seasons, so too can our faith when rooted in Christ, providing a foundation that produces much fruit.

Surrounding the tree is a mulch bed filled with the senior rocks, a tradition passed down each year at Dayton Christian. On their final day before leaving for the senior trip, seniors pass a rock to a junior, marking a rite of passage for the juniors and offering closure for the seniors. These rocks represent the student body, each one unique yet part of the whole, symbolizing both the continuity and growth of our school community.

The bricks encircling the tree are engraved with the names of faculty and staff members who have faithfully served at Dayton Christian and have passed on. Serving as faculty or staff at DCS requires a profound commitment to others—a selfless dedication to the mission. We are grateful for those who have paved the way and left a lasting legacy of service to the Lord.

Most importantly, this memorial serves as a reminder to past, present, and future members of Dayton Christian School that Jesus Christ should always be at the core of our mission. Living out this legacy is a calling worth pursuing, and we are deeply thankful for the examples set by those who have gone before us, whose faith and service continue to inspire us today.

Former Mr. Football nominee and All-Mid-American Conference defensive back Heath Harding ('13) returned to Dayton Christian in Fall 2019 to help emcee the grand opening of the school’s Warrior Center. The 12,000-square-foot gymnasium was a long-awaited promise to the DC community, which spent more than 15 years without a court to call its own.

Coincidentally, 2019 was a big year for Harding as well. After being sidelined with an injury, he was finally getting back into the game he loved. Earlier in the year, he signed a contract to join the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Harding played pro football for three years spanning from NFL, CFL, and IFL before returning home to Ohio to pursue a career in sales.

Whether they call themselves a Crusader or Warrior, DC alumni are always excited to return home. We are thankful for their willingness to pass on the legacy to our current students by sharing how God is using them as athletes, veterinarians, authors, musicians, and more.
