Our History

Dayton Christian School System’s Special Education program began in in 1981 and has developed into a three point program which consists of academic intervention, pullout services and our Joshua program which serves students with mild to moderate cognitive delays.

Our Mission

I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14a

We believe that God has fearfully and wonderfully made each of us as unique individuals. Our mission is to compassionately identify the needs of students and partner with parents to offer and implement solutions so each student can grow to his or her highest potential, to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, until He returns.

Our Program

1. INTERVENTION PROGRAM

Our intervention program is incorporated at both of our campuses and is designed to meet the needs of

♦ Students with no identifiable learning disability but may need help with skills such as organization

♦ Students with different learning modalities

♦ Students having problems with grades, motivation and/or responsibility

Students on our intervention program have an intervention plan that is written by a teacher who is trained to be an education assistant specialist. Each plan is written to incorporate the participation of the student, parent and the student’s teachers. The student’s progress is monitored by the education assistance specialist.

2. FUNDAMENTALS PROGRAM

Designed for students struggling with learning differences, alternate learning modalities, dyslexia and processing needs

♦ Curriculum based on student’s individual critical learning skill level

♦ Ratio of up to 12 students per teacher in middle and high school fundamentals classrooms

♦ Ratio of up to 4 students per teacher in elementary classrooms and tutoring

3. JOSHUA PROGRAM

Just as Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, DCSS wishes all students to experience the abundant life.

♦ For students with cognitive delays

♦ For students needing a self-contained classroom for all academics

♦ Ratio of up to 8 students per teacher

♦ Classes at elementary, middle and high school levels

♦ Employability skills emphasized in grades 7-12

♦ Curriculum based on student’s individual critical learning skill level
