Travel to a new culture this summer without even leaving Dayton. Studies have shown that children who learn a second language at a younger age enhance their creativity, critical thinking skills, and mental flexibility. This session will immerse campers into the Spanish language and culture through fun, interactive play such as music, visuals, and games.

Instructor: Allison Misere

Allison brings her love for Hispanic people and their culture to the classroom. She has been teaching Spanish at DC for more than 10 years. Through teaching, she is able to show students how fun it can be to step out of their comfort zone and learn the language and the beautiful culture of the Spanish-speaking world. In addition to teaching Spanish, Allison has led mission trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic for 15 years.

Stefanie received a bachelors in fine arts from Bob Jones University, and returned to teach art at DC where she graduated in 1998. Stefanie has dedicated the last decade to DC and loves revealing a child’s gift for art by teaching them techniques that allow them to do things they never thought possible. Stefanie currently serves as DC’s art teacher for Grades 1-8. 

Instructor: Erika Baudendistal (Grades 1-4)

Introducing Erika Baudendistal, a graduate of Wright State University with a degree in Fine Arts, specializing in photography. Erika is passionate about capturing moments through her lens and sharing her love for the arts with others. She brings her expertise to the classroom through her experience owning her own photography business, which she successfully ran for four years after graduating. She has worked as the long-term high school substitute teacher at DC twice where she covered a range of art mediums including drawing, sculpture, painting, print-making, and photography. In the classroom, she engages students with her creative approach and encourages them to explore their artistic talents. With her diverse background and dedication to education, Erika is making a positive impact on students' lives, inspiring them to express themselves through various art forms

Campers will learn the basics of the trade by sewing all the essentials needed to cook up a favorite dish in the kitchen. Students will learn how to set up and operate a sewing machine and learn basic sewing techniques. They will then be set in motion to create a placemat, potholders, and apron. No prior sewing experience required!

Please Note: Students will be responsible to purchase a supply list, including fabric. This is in addition to the camp session’s cost.

Instructor: Emma Fry

Emma Fry has been sewing for more than a decade. She owns her own sewing and alteration business where she specializes in women's formal occasion wear. Emma has worked as a costumer for over 30 productions with Town Hall Theater, Epiphany Drama Ministry, and Yellowbrick Theater Company. While this is Emma's debut at Campalooza, she has taught costuming at a theater summer camp for three summers.  In 2018, Emma was named Simplicity Patterns and Girl's Life Magazine's Teen Designer of the Year. She is currently a fashion design major at the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program where she received the Martha Steinkamp Sherman Award for her Artistic Accomplishments.  

Music is not only a gift from God but a means by which students can learn to glorify their creator. This session will dive deep into the foundations of music while bringing God’s truth to life. 

Students in Grades 1-2 will learn basic rhythm patterns, different dynamics, tempo contrasts, melody, and even dive into some basic note reading. They also will learn how to sing and follow music, learning scripture by music and putting games to those rhythmic and dynamic differences. Lastly, they will explore colors and shapes and how they can be incorporated through music.

Students in Grades 3-4 will learn how to read music, follow a melody line, learn the different tempo marks, music symbols, dynamic marks as well as intervals and we will pair all of these things to songs and scripture. They will also have games that corollate with different rhythms, beats, dynamics and tempos.

Instructor: Stephany Weldon

Stephany has more than 23 years of experience teaching music, piano, voice, choir, and hand bells. She currently teaches music to students in Grades K-1 at Dayton Christian where joyful sounds of praise are often heard pouring out of her classroom.

Running through obstacle courses, gathering with friends to play capture the flag, and engaging in team sports have a huge impact on a child’s health. This session is meant to be enjoyable for every student while pushing them to reach goals they have for themselves in physical education. This session is sure to inspire children for a summer full of exercise and outdoor play.

Instructor: Paul Holliday

Paul brings his love for youth and sports by helping students in a gym class setting. He has been coaching high school soccer and basketball for the last seven years and has just finished his second year as a Physical Education Teacher at Dayton Christian. Paul graduated from Dayton Christian in 2011 and then went on to play four years of collegiate soccer at Huntington University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.

We're excited to introduce participants to the captivating realm of digital design and fabrication using Fusion 360 and 3D printing. Fusion 360 serves as a robust platform for participants to unleash their creativity, enabling them to design everything from basic prototypes to intricate models with ease. Guided by our experienced instructor from Wright State University, participants will delve into the fundamentals of 3D modeling and develop basic proficiency in Fusion 360's user-friendly interface. They'll witness their designs materialize through 3D printing technology, experiencing firsthand how digital creations can be transformed into tangible objects. This immersive experience not only cultivates technical skills but also fosters innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration as participants work together on projects and bring their ideas to life. Join us this summer for an enriching journey into the world of design and fabrication!

Craig Baudendistel

Craig Baudendistel is a Mechanical Engineering professor at Wright State University. He teaches courses in applied mathematics, solid modeling and analysis, computer aided manufacturing, and Matlab programming. Craig is the advisor for two collegiate design competitions, the SAE Mini Baja and Solar Splash. Seniors in these groups design and build an off-road vehicle and solar powered boat to race against other colleges. He also is an engineering consultant for Drone Express, a drone delivery service located in the Dayton region.
