In one of the first acts in his role as Head of School, Matt Baker has introduced the Academic Council, a group that is tasked with the maintenance of the academic standards of  Dayton Christian School.

"The Academic Council will create the vision and subsequent action plans to propel DCS into new levels of academic achievement and increase program offerings," Baker said.

The council will oversee curriculum, professional development plans, Biblical integration methods within the classroom, core subject vertical alignment, assessment literacy, and more.

Members of the Academic Council include: Matt Baker, Head of School; Sarah Griffiths, Special Education Director; Angela Millar, Curriculum Coordinator; Wendy Tesmer, Preschool Director; James Holliday, K-8 Principal; Bhuma Kumaran, Elementary Assistant Principal; Bethany Metcalf, Middle School Assistant Principal; Darren Gentry, High School Principal; and Jacqueline Petty, High School Assistant Principal.  Council members were chosen for their expertise and skill sets that relate to the group's purpose.

The Academic Council will work in conjunction with the already-established Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The SLT is an operational body which  conducts the business of school.  It focuses on school-level vision, resource allocation, accreditation, budgeting, marketing, etc. The  SLT will also work in partnership with the Academic Council to be a model of spiritual leadership through word and deed.

"In addition to their spiritual partnership, the Senior Leadership Team will support the needs of the Academic Council as they arise," Baker said.
