Artistic works by two Dayton Christian High School students have been selected as part of the 2021 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. Sophomore Audrey Reisbeck’s pencil drawing of her father’s airplane entitled “Family Airloom,” was chosen as part of a special cameo display of only 59 works from around the state that would have been installed in the State Department of Education and Governor’s Office had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Slipping,” a photograph of honey dripping from a trio of spoons, by senior Julia Hahn will also be included in the annual show.
This is the fifty-first year of the exhibition which is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of the talented youth artists in the state. The exhibition is open to students in all high schools in Ohio, and out of more than 6,200 entries, 342 finalists were selected for the online exhibition.
“Both of these young ladies are very talented, and I am thrilled they are being honored in the exhibition, said Mrs. Fredericks, DCHS art teacher. Fredericks encouraged both girls to submit their work for consideration in the contest.
Both finalists have a deep passion for art which keeps them continually honing their skills.
Hahn viewed the exhibition as an opportunity for growth.
Over quarantine, I challenged myself to get more creative with my photography, and this piece is a part of that effort,
said Hahn.
Reisbeck’s submission had a more sentimental origin.
“I did the drawing for my father’s birthday,” said Reisbeck. “He had spent some time tracking down an airplane that belonged to my grandfather. He had just recently found it, and I wanted to celebrate that.”
The photo’s submission in the exhibition and honor as a cameo display subsequently earned a presence on social media and attracted the interest of an art auction in Florida where just last week another of Reisbeck’s work was sold for $500.
